Foot Trails icons

The traditional paths that come to mind when you think of hiking are foot pathways. Don your trekking boots, then set out! Variables include distance, incline, topography, and difficulty. Footpaths can ran0ge from rocky dirt roads that climb mountains to level, paved sidewalks that meander through cities and other populated regions. To choose the path that’s best for you, consult a park map or speak with a ranger at the visitor center.

Bikeways icons

Bikeways, often known as bike pathways, are trails that welcome cyclists. Before giving way to paths designed specifically for bikes or on foot, some trails may be multi-use, allowing bikes, hikers, and horses to use the same trail. Before setting off on your excursion, make sure to examine a trail map so you are aware of what to expect. And always remember your right-of-way and decent hiking manners.

Boardwalks icons
Boardwalks are bridges that span water or wetlands. They are often built of smooth materials, such as wood, and are wheelchair accessible. To find out if there are accessible trails available, please check with your local park. Expect higher people because boardwalks are frequently found close to parking lots.
To keep yourself safe and to safeguard local wildlife and flora, stay on boardwalks.

Interpretive/Nature Trails icons
Interpretive paths convey a narrative. You might discover more about the park’s natural phenomena, the local flora and fauna, our ancestors’ way of life there, or all three! Short and typically wheelchair-accessible, interpretive pathways. You’ll come across markers on the trail that provide further details about the area around you. Statues that depict the scenario are part of the self-guided interpretative walk at Saint Croix Island International Historic Site.

Multi-Use Trails icons
On multi-use pathways, horses, bicycles, and hikers all share the ground. Be aware of your right-of-way! On multi-use trails, observe proper trail etiquette. Some trails and roads in parks are accessible to horses and bicycles but always check for signage. For information about approved bike trails, contact your local park.

Visit the approved off-trail areas in the wilderness of national parks for a more challenging experience. To be sure you have any necessary permits, check with local park, and abide by Leave No Trace and wilderness regulations. You might even stay on the path for a day or two and sleep outside. Before you leave, find out more about wilderness and backcountry hiking and camping.

One of the product managers in charge of Kibana is me; my name is Alex Francoeur. I am also the eldest of three brothers. I’ve felt responsible for my brother’s overall safety and well-being ever since I can remember. If you need further evidence, I have home recordings of me outwitting some playground bullies in preschool who were attempting to steal my brother’s frisbee.

I’ll be sharing a story about my brother, Mike Francoeur, in later blog articles. Mike is a three-Michelin-star chef who has experience at some of the world’s top eateries. He is a chef of the highest caliber, having worked at restaurants like Saison in San Francisco and Jean George in New York. His life is multiplied by 1000 if you’ve ever watched any Food Network cooking competition show. As you can expect, working as a chef can be very demanding. Working long hours in a hot kitchen while spending 10 to 12 hours a day on your feet while serving food to some of the wealthiest people in the world.
