DownloadThe following is an example of how you would use the icon library:
- Create a new document with dimensions of 800 x 600 pixels.
- Select the Rectangle tool from the Tools panel. Click inside the canvas area and drag diagonally across the page until you have created a square shape. You should see the cursor change into a crosshair when it’s over the canvas area. Release the mouse button. A rectangle will appear on your screen.
- In the Layers palette, click on the Background layer thumbnail to make it active.
- Using the Type tool (T), select the font called “Helvetica” from the Fonts panel. Change its size to 24 points.
- With the Type tool still selected, go back to the Fonts panel and choose the font called “Times New Roman.” Change its size to 16 points.
- Choose the Brush tool (B) from the Tools panel. Open the Brushes folder by clicking on the small arrow at the top right corner of the panel. Double-click on the Brush 1 icon to open the brush settings dialog box.
- From the Tool Options section, set the Size to 3 px and the Hardness to 100%.
- Set the foreground color to #FFFFFF (white).
- Press Enter/Return twice to create two copies of the brush. Rename one copy “Brush 1” and the other “Brush 2”.
- Use the Brush tool to paint some text onto the canvas. Make sure you don’t move the text outside the canvas area.
- Save this file as “icon_library.psd” in your Photoshop PSD files folder. This is where we’ll store all our icons.
